Gemmological Society of Japan

 

The Gemmological Society of Japan – GSJ, was initiated in 1974, with the aim to improve the level of gemmological activity, promote research activity in gemmology, and build a bridge between academic and gem testing fields. The initiation of the Society was based on a strong desire of gemmologists working in gem testing laboratories, who felt the need to develop a common, non-commercial forum to present and discuss their experiences and achievements. 
 
GAAJ-ZENHOKYO lectures regularly in GSJ’s annual meetings and our professional abstracts appear in GSJ’s journal.

 

CIBJO - The World Jewellery Confederation

 
CIBJO, The World Jewellery Confederation, is an international confederation of national jewellery trade organisations and other bodies involved inthe jewellery business. CIBJO's purpose is to encourage harmonisation, promote international cooperation in the jewellery industry, and to consider issues which concern the trade worldwide. Foremost among these is to protect consumer confidence in the industry. GAAJ-Zenhokyo has been a long standing member of CIBJO.
 

Gemological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A)

  

The Gemmological Association of Great Britain, or Gem-A, is the world’s longest established provider of gem and jewellery education. Its first gemmology course notes and exam syllabus were produced by 1912, and the earliest diploma was awarded in 1913. The Education Institute of GAAJ-Zenhokyo conducts courses on behalf of Gem-A, awarding its prestigious FGA diploma to graduates.
 

International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA)

 

The International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA),is a nonprofit trade association that represents the international colored gemstone industry. GAAJ- Zenhokyo is an associate member of the ICA, and as such actively participates in discussion forums and deliberations about gemstone nomenclature.

International Mineralogical Association (IMA)

 

Founded in 1958, the International Mineralogical Association (IMA) is the world's largest organisation promoting mineralogy. Some 39 national mineralogical societies or groups are members of IMA. The association supports the activities of Commissions and Working Groups involved on certain aspects of mineralogical practice and facilitates intercourse among mineralogists by sponsoring and organising meetings. IMA is affiliated to IUGS, the International Union of Geological Sciences.

Laboratory Manual Harmonization Committee (LMHC)

 

GAAJ-Zenhokyo is one of seven members of the Laboratory Manual Harmonization Committee(LMHC), which serves the gemmological community. This international committee includes six of the world's leading gem laboratories:CISGEM (Italy), GAAJ-Zenhokyo (Japan), GIA (USA), GIT-The Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand, Gübelin Gem Lab (Switzerland) and SSEF Swiss Gemmological Institute (Switzerland). The committee holds meetings in order to standardize termininology in Gem Identification Reports issued by each laboratory. The findings of the meetings are widely distributed in the industry and information sheets are drafted to be useful reference for identification laboratories around the world.

 

 

Mineralogical Society of America (MSA)

 

The Mineralogical Society of America (MSA) was founded in 1919 for the advancement of mineralogy, crystallography, geochemistry, petrology, and promotion of their uses in other sciences, industry and the arts. It encourages fundamental research about natural materials and supports the teaching of mineralogical concepts and procedures.  The Society encourages the preservation of mineral collections, displays, mineral localities, type minerals and scientific data.
